Egovernance – Taking Governance to the Grassroots
eGovernance presents one of the biggest opportunities for Governments to improve the lives of the Citizens at large. Calance has been active in multiple pan-India eGovernance initiatives in the past 7 years with appreciable outcomes.
India needs the right skills for its people and needs the right investment to achieve that. The Government is providing avenues and environments for individuals and corporates alike to partner with the government to give the citizens a more citizen-centric government. Calance is supporting these twin objectives through a series of development programs especially designed for rural development.
We have now set upon ourselves a target of touching the lives of at least 5% of India’s citizens within the next 5 years.

Calance has established a chain of Skill Development Centers under the brand – SkillStation. Besides our regular open market Skill Development courses, Calance has been mandated by NSDC (a PPP initiative of the Government of India) to provide high level professional training to more than one million youth under the GoI Skill Mission.
The government in India runs multiple citizen centric projects delivering benefits to citizens. To improve the outcomes of these programs, the Government is working towards understanding the need of the individual and thus targeting the delivery of such benefits at a more granular level. As a pre-requisite, citizen identification and tracking followed by tracking service delivery down to the individual’s level is the key. Calance has been supporting this objective of the Government by offering pan-India Biometric enrollment and identification services. Calance has been a key player in some of the major projects based on biometric identification:
- Aadhaar – Enrolled 5M+ citizens in a centralized database of biometric information of the residents of India
- RSBY – Health Insurance for below poverty line population. Worked with various insurance companies to reach out, enroll and administer health insurance benefits.
Limited access to formal banking has long been a challenge in improving the livelihoods of large number of citizens. Formal banking channels did not have the right cost structure to adequately service such a customer base. Calance is helping the Government of India to bridge this gap by working with banks in reaching out to this population and establishing remote bank service desks through intermediaries called Banking Correspondents.
Common Service Centers is a countrywide scheme of the Government of India with the initiative of establishing 100,000 Common Service Centers to offer e-services to 600,000 villages all over India.
The centers are normally run on public private partnership BOT model. Calance is currently running 450 centers with additional 400 centers soon to be brought online. These centers, established primarily in non-urban far flung locations, can assist people in various Business to Consumer transactions as well as Government to Citizen transactions such as seeking information about government grants, filing income tax returns, driving licenses, business registrations and even job applications to various Government departments.
