The Calance Integration Group helps medium and large companies to design, improve, and implement best practices through intelligent use of software. We are experts in the core Oracle Primavera Products: P6, Contract Manager, and Unifier. We have a solid track record integrating data between these systems and Timberline, JD Edwards, and PeopleSoft.
The core of our work is integrating data among these systems. Most of the work we do involves one or more of these systems. To aid the integration process, we have developed an in-house integration framework called “Dimension”, as well as a suite of tools that help us to analyze client data. Besides integration work, we also create simplified front-ends to these systems to make them easier to use. We also help clients to set up these systems, and consult on how to use them correctly.

In order to offer solid advice on integrations and in order to integrate with these systems correctly, it is important that we know our systems well.

Projects may be limited by scope, schedule, and cost, but knowledge only grows when shared. We want our clients to not only have the best software, but also to know to use that software effectively. That’s why we are active in user groups and online forums, and why we attend a number of conferences each year.
The main conference we attend is Collaborate. This conference is organized by the different groups of Oracle users, ranging from Java developers to users of PeopleSoft Projects in Oil and Gas. Our director, Daniel Williams, was instrumental in creating the Oracle Primavera Special Interest Group (OPSIG), and ensuring that Primavera users could maintain a strong presence in this conference.
Another important conference is OpenWorld, Oracle’s key annual event. Here is where we speak directly with the teams at Oracle, and learn trends in the industry and the road maps of the products that our customers rely on.
There are many ways to integrate data between systems, from simple file import/export to complex and sophisticated enterprise web services. We believe in a few principles:
It’s about the customer, not the technology.
It is not our goal to prove that any specific solution is better than any other. The truth is that the best solution depends on the situation. What is best for the client is not what meets the needs of another, and it is counter productive to try to fit the same solution to every situation. If a client needs real-time, multi-threaded integration, we can do that. But if a simple, easy, inexpensive tool will accomplish the necessary goals, that is what we will always recommend.
Do not reinvent the wheel
Given enough time and resources, almost any IT team could create a set of integrations for you. But there are many mistakes they will learn from and many false paths they may take. Why pay a team to learn the lessons which we have mastered? We have integrated many different systems for many different clients, have seen many projects through to completion and long-term success. The tools and technologies at our disposal allow us to leapfrog the painful lessons others struggle with and allow us to focus on understanding your needs and delivering solid integrations that can stand the test of time.
Here are our two main integration products that we use to meet our clients’ needs: Calance Dimension, and Oracle Primavera Gateway.
Dimension is our own product and has been under constant improvement since 2001. It is very robust, capable of handling large numbers of projects and high volumes of data. It is also designed to be flexible enough to handle even the most complicated data mappings. There are also many connectors which we have developed that are designed to be reused to help speed up development time and reliability. This includes data adapters for P6, Unifier, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, Timberlie, and Procore.
Primavera Gateway is a new product from Oracle, released in March 2013. It is geared towards facilitating the integration of Primavera P6 with other systems, particularly other Primavera products such as Unifier, Prime, and EnterpriseTrack (Instantis), as well as other systems such as SAP. This focused approach to integration offers a number of Oracle-supported, out-of-the-box integration processes.
Each system has its place, and which one is best depends on the client and their needs.
As we mentioned, we are not focused on implementing specific technology, but rather on meeting client needs with the most appropriate tools available.
