Client
Bulley & Andrews (B&A)
Challenges
Facing rapid growth that its existing project management platform couldn’t handle, B&A adopted Procore. Procore served its needs perfectly in nearly every respect, but the team could not integrate accounting data from CMiC, their ERP.
Solution
Calance worked with B&A to seamlessly integrate data between Procore and CMiC, along with other data sources, such as Google Sheets and Chrome River.
Results
The fully integrated and automated use of Procore allowed the company to handle its massive 250% growth over the past 5 years and freed project managers to focus on their highest strategic priorities.
Today, the system handles 1,500 active projects worth $1.7 billion.
Bulley & Andrews (B&A) is a construction firm headquartered in Chicago with roots dating back more than a century. Known for fine craftsmanship across a wide range of projects, including historical restoration, B&A entered a phase of rapid growth that exceeded the capacity of its project management platform at the time. The system also lacked effective communication capabilities
Vice President of Technology & Innovation Dana Erdman and her team chose Procore as their new project management system, but they required a seamless integration with CMiC, the ERP that housed their accounting data.
Based on Procore’s referral, Dana and her team turned to Calance to guide their integration. Together, they connected diverse data sources to ensure accuracy, reduce manual data entry, and support $1.7 billion in contracts across 1,500 active projects.
“We chose Procore as our new project management system, but we needed to have it integrate with CMiC. A trusted contact at Procore recommended Calance, and we launched a deep discovery to find the best way to integrate the data.”

The Challenge: Seamless Data Integration
B&A’s previous project management system required heavy manual input, which was time-consuming and prone to error.
Procore represented an opportunity to reduce manual input, improve efficiency, and create a single source of truth for project and accounting data. However, the off-the-shelf version of Procore could not achieve what B&A hoped to achieve with CMiC.
Rather than settling for their old software’s limitations, Dana and her team turned to Calance. Working closely with a team led by Daniel Williams, Director of Integration and Development at Calance, B&A made Procore its single source of truth—integrating not just CMiC data into the platform but data from other sources as well (e.g., Chrome River, Google Sheets).
The Solution: Strategic Discovery, Implementation, and Ongoing Support
The Calance team began by accessing B&A’s systems, diving deeper into their data, and working with Dana to understand how each data category was relevant to their business.
Since the project managers preferred to work within the Procore platform, Dana prioritized pushing data from Procore into the CMiC system—with the ultimate goal of allowing the data to flow freely between the two systems.
“Daniel and his team were great to work with,” said Dana. “They always understood our timelines and prioritized the most important projects.”
The Power of Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
Most integrations rely on Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to allow two software platforms to communicate and interact, but Calance goes a step further with Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
In simple terms, RPA uses software “robots” or “bots” to mimic human action, opening the door to a number of advantages. Chief among them was the ability to customize each action to match B&A’s exact business processes without creating inefficient workarounds that could impact productivity.
Once the Calance team fully integrated the CMiC data into Procore, they made a series of additional improvements that Dana calls “quality-of-life” projects—streamlining day-to-day tasks, saving time through additional automation, and freeing project managers to focus on their most important tasks.
These “quality-of-life” projects included:
- Automating new project creation by integrating data between Google Sheets and Procore
- Automating data entry between Chrome River and Procore to track cost codes and expenses and to replicate images into Procore
- Developing new functionalities as project managers became more comfortable with the integration
- Expanding deployment to B&A’s subsidiaries that handle masonry, restoration, and others
When the time came to upgrade CMiC from version 10 to version 12, Daniel and his team rewrote significant portions of their code to support the transition.
Today, Daniel continues to meet weekly with Dana to strategize, identify new opportunities, and prioritize next steps.
“The Calance team took the time to get to know our business, and they understood that we had very little wiggle room for failure. Whenever something needs immediate attention, they jump on it.”

Results: An Optimized Platform to Support Growth
Thanks to a seamless integration between Procore, CMiC, and other data sources, B&A was poised to handle its massive 250% growth over the next five years.
Today, the system manages 1,500 active projects worth a collective $1.7 billion.
While doubling the total number of projects in their system, the Procore integration allowed project managers to reduce errors, collaborate better, and focus their efforts on those activities with the greatest impact.
